According to the National Center for Missing & Exploted Children, the AMBER Alert Program, named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, and transportation agencies to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. Broadcasters use the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to air a description of the abducted child and suspected abductor. The goal of an AMBER Alert is to instantly galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and safe recovery of the child.
The national Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative was designed to distribute AMBER Alerts to wireless subscribers who opt in to receive the text messages on their wireless devices. Go to www.wirelessamberalerts.org to sign up.

The Fairmont Police Department encourages you to sign up for the wireless AMBER alerts for our area, or for the area in which you travel within. The first three hours after a child's abduction are the most critical to recovery efforts, so your help is critical.
